Nellore: CPI State Secretary P Madhu demanded the State government to regularise services of contract lecturers across the State. He extended his support to the protesting contract lecturers at the collectorate which reached 13th day on Thursday.

Meanwhile, student Union leaders of SFI, AISF, YSRSU, NSUI, PDSU, and BCSF took out a massive rally from Dodla Kousalyamma Women’s Degree College up to Collectorate. They staged a protest and shouted slogans against the government.

It may be recalled that, as many as 262 lecturers working in 26 junior colleges and 47 lecturers from nine government degree colleges in the district were on strike. About 65 per cent contract lecturers were working in the government junior and degree colleges.

Speaking to media persons, CPI leader P Madhu said that he would forward a letter to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu regarding the issue of contract lecturers and said that the State government would have to be responsible for consequences, if the stir turns violent across the State, he added.

He also said that the government should interact with the JAC leaders on the issue. The government has to implement equal wage to equal work for the lecturers, he demanded.

Students Federation of India District President N Ravi alleged that the government was ignoring the demand of contract lecturer’s even though they were contributing on par with regular lecturers.

Students studying in government colleges were facing difficulties due to lack of lecturers at the time of final examinations which are nearing within two months, he said.

Even the syllabus was not completed in majority of the colleges and there has been a need to regularise contract lecturers for providing quality education in government colleges, said N Ravi.

AISF District Secretary Y Madhu said that even though the government had issued G.O No.3 which gives scope for hike in their salaries but the order has not been implemented yet. YSRSU leaders Sravan, N Madan, NSUI leader Kesava Narayana and others were present.
