Chintur (East Godavari): Tension prevailed along the Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh border as three landmines allegedly planted by Maoists were unearthed.

Around 8 am on Saturday, police were informed that some wires had been detected beneath the main road between Yedugurralapalli and Pegavillages of Chintur mandal and that either side of the road was found dug. A couple of Maoist banners were also found near the site. Incidentally, this was the same site near which the October 23 encounter between Maoists and police took place in which 24 Maoists were killed.

The local police apprised East Godavari SP M Ravi Prakash of the situation following which the SP directed the police to cordon off the area and stop vehicular traffic. The bomb squad along with greyhound police is expected to reach the site from Kakinada to diffuse the land mines.
