Kurnool: CPM State committee member T Shadrak demanded the government to strive for the development of Kurnool and also halt migrations from Kurnool district to other cities.

Addressing a maha dharna conducted before the Collectorarte here on Saturday, Shadrak criticised the government for not taking necessary steps to overcome the situation after declaring Kurnool as drought-hit.

He said several families from Alur, Pathikonda, Adoni, Mantralayam, Kodmur and Dhone are migrating to Hyderabad, Guntur, Mumbai and Chennai in search of livelihood.

The migrated families are living in pathetic condition on the pavements and footpaths due to lack of adequate facilities. The government has to complete the pending irrigation projects and reservoirs on war-foot basis by allocating sufficient funds, he said. He demanded the construction of reservoir at Halaharvi and Molagavalli.

The Nagaradona reservoir is also pending since 2007, which needs immediate completion, he stated. Party district secretary K Prabhakar Reddy alleged that the District Collector is acting as an agent to the ruling party. He alleged that the district is lagging behind in development despite of two-and-a-half years of TDP rule.

AIDWA State vice-president P Nirmala demanded construction of protection wall to Handri-Neeva and Tungabhadra rivers and also urged the government for the construction of under drainage system in Kurnool. CPM city secretary Ghouse Desai, G Rama Krishna, B Ramanjaneyulu, PS Radha Krishna and others also spoke on the occasion.
