In Rayalaseema region, drop in the milk yield has become a common phenomenon and is attributed to shortage of fodder caused by crop failure due to drought.

As a result, the farmers are forced to sell animals to abattoirs. Therefore, the State government has come to the farmers’ rescue and extended the seeds and cattle feed on subsidy. The quantity of the cattle-feed, which is full of proteins, being supplied is 60 kg per cattle head.

This time around, the government has been supplying CSH-24 superfine variety of fodder seeds, which are very beneficial to farmers. The specialty of this variety is that there will be lush green growth of the fodder crop upon wetting the land just once.

The crop can be harvested thrice: first after 60 days and twice afterwards in a space of 40 days. Veterinary doctor Dr R Nagaraju said that the seeds are produced specially for the farmers of Rayalaseema region to enable them to withstand drought-like conditions.
