Hindupur (Anantapur): Sangamithra Food Producers Company run by a 5-member SHG team is making waves among the women groups and inspiring co-women to become entrepreneurs.

It also received the best supplier award from US-based Walmart Company at the all-India level. The Sangamithra Company is the only one to receive the award in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

The Walmart impressed with the best hygienic practices of the company visited their unit recently and came forward to market their products in the Walmart malls in the country.

The Sangamithra Food Producers Company has five directors and five promoters, who are running the company. The company is now into snacks and eateries business.

It is producing Andhra eatery products including Karam Chaklam, Nippattu, Kodaballa and Vamu Chakkalam which are in heavy demand in the local market. The women have now diversified into groundnut and tamarind marketing business.

They procured tamarind from Madakasira region in the district up to 1,500 kilograms and best groundnut up to 2,000 kgs. After packing them into 1 kilogram packets with the Sangamithra emblem, they have started supplying them to Walmart outlets in Vijayawada, Hyderabad and Guntur.

The business just launched in September 2016 with an investment of Rs 20 lakh. Rs 16 lakh was spent on the machinery and Rs 4 lakh on the raw material.

The company managing director Gundamma speaking to The Hans India said that the company needs more marketing support from the government. She thanked the DRDA project director Venkateshwarlu for purchasing 80,000 packets of its eatery products.

The company has fixed a target of raising 1,000 SHG members as share holders to strengthen the company's financial base. She says that an order for 2 tonnes of tamarind was given to the company and it is in the process of sending supplies to Wallmart malls in AP state.

DRDA project director, who was elated at the company receiving the Walmart Award, said that he would provide all necessary help for strengthening the firm. He hoped that other SHG members will draw inspiration from the company to launch companies of their own.
