Nellore: Cyclone Vardah has not only brought cheers to south coastal districts with rains, but also created congenial environment to winged guests from other parts of the globe for their stay and breeding.

Now, surroundings of Pulicat Lake are witnessing a colourful atmosphere with migratory birds.

The Nelapattu bird sanctuary holds a large variety of birds that include Spotted Billed Pelican, White Ibis, Spoon Bill, Open Billed Stork, Night Heron, Little Cormorant, Painted Stork, Babblers, Coot, Waders, Flamingos and many more.

In fact, Pulicat Lake attracts 80-100 water birds belonging to 80 species, which comes to around 60,000-80,000 migrant water birds.

They feed and breed in the northern part of lagoon every winter. Some even come from Ladakh, Tibet and China.

They come from faraway places for breeding and return to their native lands with a precision along with their chicks.

The southern part of the district received a good rainfall due to impact of the cyclone for about two days earlier this month. But there was no impact on northern part of the district up to Kavali.
