Visakhapatnam: The Anti-Corruption Bureau has embarked on a major mission to cleanse the government departments from corruption which has reached alarming proportion over the last couple of years. The arrest of Kurnool DMHO Dr U Swarajya Lakshmi and Additional Commissioner of Excise K L Bhaskar is just the beginning and many more will follow soon, said the highly determined Director General of ACB R P Thakur who took over the reins recently.

  • DG R P Thakur says the dept is strengthening its intelligence wing and all officers are being asked to study past judgements to make investigations more accurate
  • Points out that govt move to unearth black money would serve no purpose unless the corrupt are brought to book

He said he has targeted 10 departments in the State directly dealing with the public and whose officers are neck deep in corruption and amassed mind boggling wealth. Talking to The Hans India on Sunday, the DG said the government move to unearth black money would serve no purpose unless the corrupt officials were brought to book.

The ACB is strengthening its intelligence wing and instructed all the officers to study and analyse the past judgments aimed at making investigations more accurate and chargesheets water tight. Thakur said despite anti-corruption and awareness campaigns taken up by the ACB on various media and setting up of help lines for such grievances, corruption cases continued to rise in the State.

“We have listed most corrupt departments, including some non-focus departments and we will nab those who had gathered crores of illegal wealth,’’ he added. He said government officials were taking all precautions to avoid a trap as they have been collecting the bribe money through private persons.
