Vijayawada: All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) has decided to demand a CBI probe into the disbursal of new currency notes supplied by RBI to various banks and institutions since November 10. The bank employees are unhappy with the unfolding developments and alleged irregularities in the transfer of hundreds of crores of new currency to various banks, institutions and persons across the country since November 10. Against this backdrop, AIBEA has decided to hold demonstrations in all State capitals from December 28 to January 3 protesting against the inaction of the Government and to demand a CBI enquiry.

At the AIBEA meeting organised in Hyderabad on Sunday and Monday, the central committee discussed about the problems being faced by the bank employees after the announcement of demonetization on November 8.The association opined that bankers were being blamed by public because of lack transparency in supply of notes from RBI. The AIBEA has made a resolution demanding CBI enquiry into the matter of notes supplied by RBI. The association demanded RBI to reveal details on the total supply of new currency notes and details of recipients, to date. AIBEA decided to hold demonstration on December 28 and again on January 2, 2017 wearing black badges in all State capitals. It has also took a decision to hold dharnas in all state capitals on January 3 and continue month long protests opposing RBI’s partisan attitude towards public sector banks in supplying currency notes and on other issues.

The AIBEA also demanded Centre to take security measures to ensure the safety of the staff working in banks as people were expressing their anger at the bank staff. The meeting also demanded that the Government pay compensation to the bank staff who died on duty due to severe pressure after demonetization and customers who died in the banks standing in queue lines for withdrawing money. A former Supreme Court judge who attended the meeting on Sunday said clarity will emerge by December 30 to finalise the future course of action related to the proposed agitation by bank employees.
