Visakhapatnam: Several employees and members of various trade unions have leveled charges of large scale corruption against one of the directors of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), B Prasad, who is currently on leave and retiring from service on December 31. The employees and trade union leaders addressed a letter to THE secretary in the Ministry of steel Aruna Sharma, on Monday, on the misdeeds of the director.

A senior trade union leader alleged that the officer who was trapped by CBI in 2006 had manage d to emerge unscathed from the case before becoming director three years ago and had misused his office for personal gains, since then. The leader said that the director owned a building near Officers’ Club worth Rs 5 crore and had acquired properties in the name of his relatives at Bhimili, Visakhapatnam, Amalapuram and Anakapalle during the last three years.

He said the director made money through condoning officials charged with corruption, approving contracts, renewal of referral status for corporate hospitals, promotions to employees and executives and recruiting new employees in the company. Some employees, who were his victims in the past, said the director had collected huge money from two private parties and a corporate college for allotment of lands in Ukkunagaram but never gave them any lands.

Senior CITU leader Ayodhya Ram said the trade union leaders and employees should not have waited this long to lodge a complaint against the official. If they had proof of his corruption, they could have made it a case long ago and not on the verge of retirement of the director.
