Vijayawada: State Bank of India Pensioners Association (SBIPA) conducted a free cancer screening camp with the support of Telugu Association of North America (TANA) and Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital and Research Institute (BIACH&RI) at KVSR Siddhartha College of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the city on Sunday and Monday.

BIACH&RI doctors tested nearly 490 men and 570 women and identified 25 positive cases. They advised 100 people who were detected to be in the early stage to take precautions accordingly.

SBIPA member Rohini Rao said that the free camp would be helpful to the people to prevent cancer at early stage. “One or two tests decided the cancer symptoms in people at early stage, these tests would help to control the cancer among people for living a long and joyful life,” she added.

She mentioned that the people don't spend money to get themselves checked as it is more expensive to go for check up.

SBIPA presented mementos and certificates to the Pinnamaneni Siddhartha Institute of Medical Science and KVSR Siddhartha College of Pharmaceutical Sciences students for supporting the BIACH&RI doctors in the cancer screening camp.

BIACH&RI free cancer screening camp manager Pardha Saradhi said that BIACH had tested nearly 2 lakh people to detect cancer at early stage in the two Telugu states during the last four years.
