Shepherds lay siege to tahsildar office

Darsi: The Tallur tahsildar office was mobbed by shepherds with around 2000 sheep on Monday. The shepherds staged a protest in front of the office and demanded that the officials remove the occupants from the grazing lands.

There are about 900 acres of grazing land belonging to the revenue and forest departments in Nagambotlapalem village of Tallur mandal. The land was occupied by some people from the village a few months ago and they had been refusing permission to the shepherds to graze their sheep.

They had also threatened the shepherds that their sheep would be poisoned. The shepherds had submitted representations to the revenue officials at the village and mandal levels but in vain.

On Monday, the shepherds reached the tahsildar office at Tallur and staged a protest in front of it. They demanded that the tahsildar take action against the land grabbers and evict them immediately. They withdrew their protest after the tahsildar promised to visit the village and take action against the culprits.
