The Central and State governments are jointly organising All India DWCRA Bazar at the Andhra University Engineering College
- Members of SHGs from 20 States to exhibit products in 300 stalls
- ‘Pensions to be paid via old system from next month till situation comes to normal’
Visakhapatnam: The Central and State governments are jointly organising All India DWCRA Bazar at the Andhra University Engineering College grounds from December 23 to January 3. Minister for Rural Development K Mrunalini will inaugurate the exhibition.
Aiming at promoting livelihood to the rural artisans and to provide better marketing facilities for handicrafts, handlooms and other traditional food items, the marketing platform of Dwacra Bazar is being provided, Collector Praveen Kumar told reporters here on Tuesday.
Stating that business was done to the tune of Rs 3 crore last year, he said. He added that now they are expecting more than last year and thanked the sponsors, including Andhra Bank, SBI, LIC and United India Jute Board. He said local Ministers, MPs, MLAs and MLCs will attend and motivate the artisans coming from other States. “The artisans could sell their products at a higher price than the rates of their home towns in the Dwcra Bazar as the purchasing power is higher here. Therefore, the artisans or SHGs would get more revenue,” he explained.
The Collector felt that with the organising of Dwcra Bazar, the artisans or members of SHGs could bring changes in the product manufacturing as they know the taste and fashions of urban people as well as the market demand with the feedback they get during the expo. He informed that the stalls would remain open from 10 am to 9.30 pm where Pochampalli, Gadwal, Narayanapet, Mangalagiri, Venkatagiri, Dharmavaram, Rajasthan, Kanchi and Uttar Pradesh handlooms, Nirmal toys, handicrafts made of brass and copper and traditional delicacies and pickles of Andhra and many other products will be available.
When his attention was drawn to the delay in payment of social security pensions in December, Praveen Kumar informed that 90 per cent of the beneficiaries were paid through bank accounts and nine per cent through direct liquid cash. The gap is only due to the lack of having bank accounts and Aadhaar cards and failure in seeding the Aadhaar card to bank accounts. However, it was decided to pay the pensions in the old system only from the next month State-wide till the demonetisation crisis comes to normal.
Asked about the failure of World Wind Festival and irregularities, he said that the event failed to draw huge crowd due to many events on that day, including that of Chief Minister’s, and lack of publicity and it would be organised on a grand scale next year. Joint Collector G Srujana, Additional Joint Collector D V Reddy were also present.
