Chittoor: The decade-old promise of developing railway station here as a model one is yet to be fulfilled. Chandrababu Naidu had assured of upgrading it to a model railway station during his first term as a Chief Minister. Railway station lacks basic facilities. Recently, the railway officials have closed a computerised reservation counter when there is demand for more to meet passenger needs. Moreover, timings of reservation counters were reduced.

Earlier, the timings of counters were from 8 am to 8 pm every day except on holidays. Now, the advance tickets are being issued from 8 am to 12 noon and from 4 pm to 6 pm only. City residents are very much disappointed with the decision of local railway officials. It is learnt that officials concerned are closing down a reservation counter in order to overcome the maintenance costs. The proposal to construct foot over bridge near railway police station is yet to be realised.

The station has no book shop, fruit juice stall, canteen, waiting halls for AC reserved ticket holders and modernised toilets. Running a train between Chittoor and Chennai is still pending and there is a demand of providing halt to long-distance running express trains here so that connectivity for passengers are improved.

The district people are hopeful that Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, who is representing AP in Rajya Sabha, would take initiative of developing railway station as a model one and fulfill pending issues.
