Steel secretary inaugurates 5 MW solar power plant

Visakhapatnam: Secretary, Ministry of Steel Dr Aruna Sharma inaugurated the 5 MW Solar Power Plant installed by the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) at a cost of Rs 33 crore here on Tuesday.

Dr Aruna Sharma commended the RINL management for foraying into solar energy in tune with the government thrust to tap renewable energy sources and said the role of renewable energy has been assuming significance in recent times with the growing concern for the country’s energy security.

Steel CMD P Madhusudan said that the RINL has joined other major corporates in harnessing solar power with this 5 MW Ground Waste Solar Power Plant. Later, the Steel Secretary, along with Joint Secretary Urvila Khati, CMD Madhusudan and directors, visited the new production units like Blast Furnace-3, Steel Melt Shop-2, Rolling Mills and Captive Power Plant-2.

She also visited the Steel Museum at the Technical Training Institute. Later, she reviewed the performance of the company with the CMD Madhusudan, Chief Vigilance Officer and directors and also interacted with the representatives of Steel Executive Officers’ Association, trade unions, SC and ST welfare associations and WIPS.

General Secretary of Steel Recognised Union (INTUC) and INTUC National leader Rajsekhar Mantri submitted a representation to the Steel Secretary Aruna Sharma in which he urged to take immediate steps for addressing pending issues.
