Kurnool: Andhra Bank Deputy General Manager Ch Gopala
Krishna appealed to business community, including Kirana shop owners to switch over to online banking.
While distributing swiping machines to the customers at Andhra Bank’s regional office here on Wednesday, Gopala Krishna exhorted all the current account holders of Andhra Bank to get swipe machines installed at their business establishments.
The DRDA Project Director Y Rama Krishna was also part of the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Gopala Krishna said that nearly 85 mobile electronic point sale (MePOS) machines have already been handed over to the traders in Kurnool district and further 80 machines would be sent to Anantapur district.
The supply of swiping machines has been taken up on a war footing basis, said the DGM.
There are nearly 12,000 current accounts in both the districts and the Andhra Bank will soon supply the swipe machines to the all current account holders.
He clarified that no service charges would be levied on debit card holders.
However, credit card holders need to pay 1.75 percent of service charges, the DGM said.
The bank has 59 branches and 46 covering Kurnool and Anantapur districts.
So far, the bank has collected Rs 750 crore cash deposits on account of note exchange, he said.
He advised people not to worry about cash availability and the situation would improve gradually.
Once the new currency of Rs 500 notes comes into circulation in the market, the cash crunching situation in bank ATMs would be solved in a couple of days, said the DGM.
He added that all the 95 ATMs in Kurnool and Anantapur districts have been calibrated to cope with demands from customers.
He urged the traders to spread awareness about the usage of the machines alongside its benefits to the customers.
Asking the people to be more familiar with cashless transactions, DRDA Project Director Y Rama Krishna stressed on the importance of mobile electronic point of sale.
In the given scenario, it is crucial to overcome demonetization issues, said Rama Krishna.
Ahead of the meeting, a presentation was given by technicians about the usage of the MePos machines.
Doubts expressed by the traders were cleared by technicians.
Besides the Andhra Bank staff, Traders and others also participated in the meeting.
