`230 crore earmarked for housing colonies
Eluru: West Godavari District Collector K Bhaskar said that 17 housing colonies with modern facilities would be constructed at a cost of Rs 230.42 crore, at three places, for the people displaced by the Polavaram project. He was speaking at a review meeting on the progress of construction of housing colonies that was attended by housing board officials, sub-Collectors and RDOs, on Saturday.

He was speaking at a review meeting on the progress of construction of housing colonies that was attended by housing board officials, sub-Collectors and RDOs, on Saturday.
The Collector said the 17 colonies would be constructed in the villages of Buttayagudem, Jeelugumilli and Polavaram mandals and directed officials to prepare new layouts with modern facilities.
He said about 2,271 displaced families would get quality houses which would be constructed at a cost of Rs 160 crore.
10 colonies are being constructed at Jeelugumilli, five colonies at Buttayagudem and 2 colonies in Polavaram mandal, said the Collector.
Joint collectors P Koteswara Rao, MH Sheriff, Kukunuru Sub-Collector Shan Mohan, Narsapur sub-Collector Sumith Kumar Gandhi and others participated in the meeting.
Regarding irrigation projects, the Collector said that he would tour the project sites in the first week of January to assess the field channel works.
He warned of stern action against contractors delaying the execution of the projects and directed officials to complete the construction of 48 structures by April, next year.
He also directed irrigation officials to complete delta modernisation works during this season.
