Kurnool: Deputy Chief Minister KE Krishnamurthy said that the government has launched the prestigious programme called Swasthya Vidya Vahini with the intention of extending better medical services to the rural masses.
He urged the doctors and nursing students to visit villages and educate villagers about the health. KEK participated as a chief guest for a programme organised on Swasthya Vidya Vahini at an auditorium of Kurnool Medical College here on Saturday.
Addressing the gathering, Krishnamurthy asked doctors and other medical staff to visit villages and educate people about the precautions to be taken for well-being of health.
He said the medical students should infuse awareness about communicable diseases, keeping surroundings clean, anemia, reproduction and health, food habits, exercise and literacy which are being implemented as part of Swasthya Vidya Vahini programme.
Around 16 mobile hospitals have been arranged for the doctors and nurses, who should utilise their services, in extending medication to the villagers, he stated.
Krishnamurthy said that he would recommend the names of doctors and students to the government for those who are providing outstanding medical services. As many as 320 diseases are being treated under NTR Vaidya Seva programme besides extending medical kits.
He stated that Kurnool Medical College is holding a prominent place among other medical colleges in the State and assured that he will strive for its development.
Around 36 open-heart surgeries have been successfully performed by Cardiothoracic Surgery department which was opened recently, he added.
Rajya Sabha member TG Venkatesh said that the government has introduced Swasthya Vidya Vahini to provide better medical services to people living in rural areas. The MP called people to avoid excess consumption of salt and fast food.
In-Charge Collector C Hari Kiran said prevention is better than cure. He exhorted students to work with zeal for bringing change among the villagers.
Kurnool has bagged the first position in the State for effectively implementing the Mother and Child Express scheme. He suggested medical students to visit the villages and understand the situation first and accordingly educate villagers about the precautionary health measures.
Kurnool MLA S V Mohan Reddy, Medical College Principal G Ram Prasad, Government General Hospital Superintendent Veera Swamy, Thoracic surgeon Prabhakar Reddy, Additional District Medical and Health Officer Raja Subba Rao, doctors, students of nursing and dental colleges, and professors participated in the programme. Later, the Deputy Chief Minister flagged off a mobile hospital.
