Visakhapatnam: Blood donation and distribution of fruits at the orphanage marked the 92nd birthday fete of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee here on Sunday.

A blood donation camp was organised jointly by the State BJP Medical Cell and BJP Street Vendors’Cell in association with NTR Blood Bank at the party office where more than 100 persons voluntarily donated blood.

Launching the blood donation camp, Hari Babu emphasised the need for awareness among public about donation of blood. He said that blood donated by a single person would save four lives. Vajpayee will be remembered long as he was instrumental in making National Highways in the country as ‘quadrants’ keeping growing traffic in view.

He complimented the party medical and street vendor cells for organising the camp. Party MLA P Vishnukumar Raju informing that the birthday of Vajpayee was being considered as ‘Clean Administration Day’, claimed that he led the country towards development. He called upon the party leaders and activists to imbibe the virtues of such great personalities.

City president M Nagendra, former city president P V Narayana Rao, Municipal Zonal Commissioner Chakradhar, State BJP Medical Cell convener R Ravi Kumar, BJP Street Vendors’ Cell Convener D Trinadha Rao, party leaders D Srinu, Suresh, Nani and Buddha Lakshminarayana were present.

BJP district president Thota Vijaylakshmi, along with party leaders and activists, conducted Swachh Bharat at Addaroad area in S Rayavaram mandal in the district on the occasion of Vajpayee’s birthday. She said to overcome the problem due to demonetisation of high denomination currency notes, an action plan has been chalked out to train the party activists who would go to interior villages to create awareness on cashless transactions. Party leaders M Appa Rao, P Nanaji, Varma and activists participated.

Meanwhile, members of city unit of BJP Mahila Morcha led by city president G Prema Kumari distributed fruits to the inmates of an orphanage home at Sheelanagar on Sunday. Mahila Morcha leaders Rama Devi, Bhubaneswari and others were also present.
