Kakinada: The boycott of duties resorted to by KGGH (Kakinada Government General Hospital) doctors ended at the midnight on Saturday after Pithapuram MLA, S. V. S. N Varma expressed deep remorse and heartfelt apology over the incident that occurred late on Friday night.

The doctors, medical staff, house surgeons, and PG doctors stuck work from midnight of Friday expressing resentment and anger over abusive language made by the MLA. The whole incident raged over the staff delay in providing medical services to a victim of electrocution from Pithapurram constituency.

According to Dr. U. Sudheer, ARMO, KGGH, the MLA on late Saturday came to the hospital and expressed unconditional apology to the medical staff in the presence of district collector H. Arun Kumar, hospital medical superintendent T Y Nageswara Rao, The doctors, medicos and others treated the matter as closed and are attending to duties as usual, he said.

Patients heaved a sigh of relief over the end of strike as the 1050-bed KGGH is the lone teaching hospital that caters to the needs of Godavari districts. All emergency cases and specialist medical care are taken up by KGGH, in addition to day-to-day medical facilities. Besides, a part of Vishakpatmm district is also covered by hospital.

In this connection, Dr Sudheer thanked Dr Ramswaroop Jawahar, President of Kakinada branch of IMA, B. Aashirvadam, President of Medical Employees Union and others for expressing their solidarity with the doctors of KGGH.
