Pithapuram: Rendering kirtans and bhajans are one of many ways to reach the Almighty. Mira Bai adopted this path effectively to realise God. Samarasata Seva Foundation came forward to practice this form of bhakti that is in extinction thereby protecting the Hindu Dharma.

Worshipping God through bhajans is deep-rooted in the culture of the countryside. In villages, people gather at one place and en masse recite the names of God. Bhajan is a form of worshipping God.

To preserve Hindu Dharma, the foundation took birth as a result of pooling of heads by various seers. The foundation has bhajan groups across all villages. It seeks to spread Hindu religion through the groups. As part of the exercise, it organises sammelans and competitions through rendering bhajans. One such a competition was recently organised at Padagaya Kshetram near Pithapuram. The sammelan was presided over by Suryaraya Vidyananda Granthalaya Secretary Kondepudi Sankar Rao. In the sammelan held in the mandal, 30 bhajan groups participated and each group rendered two bhajans. Bhajan Guru P Dharmaraju and Peddiraju, and others were felicitated at the sammelan.

Devotees adopt different paths to reach God. They are: puja, dhayana, tapas, mantra, tantra, kirtans, and bhajans. Rendering Bhajans is a popular form of worshipping God in rural areas. People from the age group of six to sixty render bhajans. If bhajans are rendered continuously for 24 hours, it is called as Ekaham, if it is done for three days it is called as Trayaham, and if is conducted for one week it is called as Saptaham and for seven weeks, it is called as Saptas aptaham.

Singing bhajans is beneficial to the central nervous system, heart and throat. The body relaxes as alpha, delta and theta waves are generated in the process of bhajans.

The foundation East Godvari district convener Karri Srinivasa Rao said that 15 teachers were trained in rendering bhajans and are sent to various villages to train the local people over there. Bhajan groups’ sammelan is being organised in 20 mandals of East Godavari district.

The TTD will extend support to the bhajan groups, which are not financially sound in acquiring musical instruments.
