Visakhapatnam: The city police issued strictures on the New Year eve celebrations in the interest of public safety, smooth flow of traffic and to prevent any untoward incidents.

The police will in advance advise the organisers of New Year eve party to restrict their parties from 10 pm to 1 am on December 31. The police also asked the revelers to refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol Briefing the media, DCP (crimes) T Ravi Kumar Murthy said that those who want to organise a New Year Party in the hotels and other places should obtain permission from the respective police stations and all the programmes should be organised between 10 pm and 1 am.

“The organisers should have to install CCTV camera at strategic places and also engage sufficient private security personnel for security and traffic management at the venue. All entries to parties should be only through invitation. Special permission must be obtained to engage DJs,” he asserted.

The DCP asked the organizers to refrain from staging nude dances. “Obscene gestures are prohibited and should not be part of New Year celebrations at hotels, resorts and pubs in the city,” the DCP averred.

He said liquor would not be served at hotels and guest houses without valid license from the Excise department and the party organisers should obtains permission from various departments. In an attempt to prevent road accidents due to drunken driving on December 31 night, traffic police decided to deal firmly with drunken driving.

Around 50 teams of traffic police will keep an eye on drunken drivers, bike racers and few other traffic violators with advanced breath analyzers and video cameras at selected places in the city and a force of at least 1,200 police personnel along with few armed police would keep an eye on New Year revellers.

The DCP warned the motorists that they would impose hefty fines, seize vehicle and produced before court if any one indulged drunken driving and bike racing during the New Year celebrations.

Beach Road closed on December 31
The police announced closure of Beach Road for vehicular traffic as more than five lakh people are expected to be at Beach Road stretch in the city on December 31 night to celebrate the New Year. The 5 km stretch of beach road between Coastal Battery and Park Hotel would be closed for traffic from 10 pm of December 31 to 4 am of January 1, 2017. Special teams would nab the eve-teasers and bike-racing gangs and other mischief mongers on the beach road, the DCP said.
