Visakhapatnam: Member of Parliament K Hari Babu claimed that with the relentless work and commitment of the municipal officials, employees and sanitary staff, the Vizag City has bagged fifth place in the Swachh Bharat Sarvekshan Survey competing with 75 other cities across the country.
Attending an awareness meet organised on the Swachhgrahi and Swachhtha app at the Central Park here on Monday, the MP praised the efforts put in by the Municipal Commissioner M Harinarayanan and his team aiming to secure a better rank in the ensuing Sarvekshan Survey to begin from January 4 in association with the local Swachh Ambassadors and the general public. ‘I have been examining Chavulamadum junction for the last 37 years which was now has got a facelift. So, one can understand with how Vizag City is transforming into a beautiful smart city’, he explained.
The remarkable change in the mindset of the citizens of Paindorapet and Chilakapet are the best examples that Visakha becoming Open Defecation-Free city for which he specifically appreciated the efforts of Swachh Bharat Ambassador Dr Shireen Rehaman. He urged the public to send photographs of any problem relating to the sanitation of a particular area by downloading the Swachhtha app so that the officials could swing into action.
Commissioner Harinarayanan while appealing the public to extend help in securing Swachh Visakha, dwelt on the initiatives taken up by the GVMC adding that nearly 1,000 citizens have registered names as ‘Swachhgrahis’ to control open-defecation.
