Centre to assess teacher training institutes
Union Minister for Human Resource and Development Prakash Javadekar said that the mission of his ministry was education for all and quality education for all and added that the respective State governments would have to decide on detention system at Class V and VIII in schools.

Javadekar and Union Minister for Urban Development M Venkaiah Naidu jointly laid foundation stone for Regional Institute of Education (RIE) of NCERT (National Council for Education, Research and Training) at Chavatapalem in Venkatachalam mandal here on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Javadekar said that institutes providing education training facilities would soon be assessed and those performing well would be encouraged while those found lacking infrastructure and other facilities would be regulated.
He said that the Regional Institute of Education would provide pre-service and in-service training to teachers besides offering four-year B.Sc, B.Ed programmes, regular B.Ed programme and also doctoral programmes in education.
The Institute will have a multipurpose demonstration school with 1,500 students and a vocational centre besides sports and computer facilities in the premises. He said the NDA government was committed to provide more institutes as promised.
Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu said that this was the sixth RIE in the country and would cater the needs of AP, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Emphasising the importance given to skill development by the Centre, he said the government was committed to promote quality education in the country. Venkaiah announced that Nellore city would soon get an FM Station besides drinking water and drainage systems.
Earlier, NCERT chairman Dr Senapathi said the institute would be completed at a cost of Rs. 500 crore. State HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao, Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana, MPs, MLAs, MLCs and senior officials from the district participated in the programme.
