‘Desi cow milk more nutrient’

Tirupati: Stating that desi cow milk is more nutrient when compared to other cross breed cows, Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University (SVVU) Vice-Chancellor Dr Manmohan Singh stressed on the need to promote production of desi cow milk.

Speaking after inaugurating the two-day Dairy and Food Mela-2016 organised by Dairy Technology College (DTC), here on Wednesday, Singh said that keeping the nutrient value of desi cow milk in view, the SVVU was educating the dairy farmers on improving milk production. “Besides, the SVVU is also conducting training classes on value addition to milk produced by small and marginal farmers to increase their revenues,” he added.

Dairy science professor Kotilinga Reddy said that the college through its students has taken up production of as many as 29 varieties of milk-based products including cheese, ghee, curd, butter, kalakand, palkova, badam milk etc. “This year, the food mela added few more attractive varieties including fish and prawn varieties brought from the College of Fisheries and also low calorie milk products like kalakand and kova,” he informed.
