Eluru: Farmers, Dalits and Artisans on Wednesday staged a dharna in front of District Collectorate here in protest against the demonetisation of big currency by Centre.

The farmers, tenant farmers, Dalits and Artisans held a rally to the Collectorate under the aegis of AP Raithu Sangham (APRS), AP Koulu Raithu Sangham (APKRS) AP Vyavasaya Karmika Sagham (APVKS) and AP Dalita Cheti Vrutthi Sangham (APDCS).

Addressing the angry farmers, AP Rythu Sangham District President B Balaram said that following the demonetisation and restrictions on the withdrawals, the farmers and tenant farmers are facing severe problems to take up cultivation. He demanded the Government to sanction Rabi crop loans to farmers.

The APKRS President Nagaboyina Rangarao criticised that the Narendra Modi’s decision to scrap the currency is an autocratic action.

Following the demonetisation, the agriculture sector thrown into crisis and added that the farmers’ position in the villages is miserable.

He demanded the government to purchase the agriculture product from the farmers on MSP immediately as there is no purchaser of the standing crops.

APKRS Secretary K Srinivas, Vyavasaya Karmika Sangham District President Jakkamsetti Satyanarayana, BC Jana Sabha State Joint Secretary Ukkusuri Gopalakrishna, SC ST Bahujan Rights and Protection committee chairman Metara Ajay Babu, KVSPS District Secretary PV Ramakrishna and others addressed the dharna.

Later, they met joint Collector P Koteswara Rao and submitted a memorandum in this regard.
