Vizianagaram: Vizianagaram Music College will organise alumni meet on January 11. Prominent musicologists, singers and others will participate in the programme and recall their association with this institute.

Maharaja Music School was established in 1919 by Pusapati Vijayarama Raju and thousands of students studied here and reached to peak. Legendary singers like P Suseela, Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao, music director Saluri Rajeswara Rao, Harikatha Pitamaha Adibhatla Narayanadasu, violin maestro Dwaram Venkataswami Naidu and others associated with this institute.

Later, the school was upgraded into a music college in 1955. Now the government will conduct a mega event with the old students of the college. P Suseela, Ghantasala Ratna Kumar, son of Ghantasala, Koti, well known music director and son of renowned music director S Rajeswara Rao and others, will participate in the programme.

On Wednesday, Minister for Rural Development K Mrinalini said that they appealed to the Ministry of Cultural Affairs to release Rs 9 lakh to conduct the mega event. She said that the government is committed to the development of the prestigious institute and provide new instruments to the college.
