Vijayawada: CPI general secretary Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy said that the decision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on demonetisation of high-value note was not yielding results towards digging up black money in the country.

Addressing the media, here on Wednesday, Suravaram said Prime Minister is reluctant to accept his mistake on demonetisation scheme despite protests by people across the country.

“Several people lost their lives in queue lines to withdraw their legitimate money from bank accounts.

At the same time, some big shots managed to get hundreds of crores of new currency from Reserve Bank of India and leaders of BJP and TDP spent crores on marriages of their children”
he said. He alleged that Modi took the decision of demonetisation to bail out big corporate houses who supported him in the last election.

The Union government was affecting the survival of small traders, he said. He also said demonetisation was a ‘Thuglak decision’ and the RBI has issued 60 different notifications following its announcement.

Later, in a public meeting on the occasion of martyr’s day, the CPI national leader said people have doubts on sincerity of Modi as he did not take any action on fugitive Vijaya Mallya and former BCCI chairman Lalit Modi and did not reveal the names of Swiss bank account holders.

He said it was unfortunate that the government was portraying the people who are criticising demonetisation as anti-nationals.

He alleged that the government was promoting digital transactions to cover up the failures of note ban.

Suravaram also criticised Chief Ministers of two Telugu States for their support to demonetisation and said CPI will strive to bring unity among the opposition parties to fight against the Modi government’s anti-people policies, including demonetisaion.

CPI State secretary K Ramakrishna and others were present.
