279 in the State
Andhra Pradesh Municipal Workers and Employees Unions took out a massive rally from Thummalapalli Kalakshetram to Dharna Chowk for abolition of the GO No 279 and equal pay for equal work in the municipalities and corporations.

Later, they participated in a public meeting at Dharna Chowk here.

Addressign a gathering, P. Madhu said that private companies would decide the house taxes, municipal workers salaries and other services in AP under the GO No 279.

“The State government has decided for removal of municipal workers in the State for allotting sanitary works to private agencies.

If the State government would sanction the sanitary works to the private agencies in the State, they would treat the municipal workers as slaves, ” he added.

He said that Chandrababu Naidu was forcefully controlling the people’s agitations in the State with the police department support.

CITU leader Babu Rao said that CITU would conduct Statewide strikes if the State government would implement the GO No. 279 in municipalities and corporations in the State.

He reminded the sanitary work contractors have failed to pay the Rs 450 per day to the municipal workers during the Krishna Pushkarlu, but also the State government has decided to allot the sanitary works under the GO No 279 to the private contractors at all the municipalities and corporations.


MLC B Nageswara Rao said that the GO No 279 was creating insecurity among the municipal workers. The Chief Minister has not spoken to any unions for clearing sanitary workers’ issue, he added.

Vijayawada Municipal Corporation chief medical officer M Gopi Naik said that the government will continue all the sanitary workers under the GO No 279 in the State.

“The GO No 279 was introduced to make the sanitary workers more responsible. The government would take the private agencies in sanitary works as service providers,” he clarified.
