Tiurpati: Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University (SVVU) sanctioned Rs 5 crore for research and promotion of value-added fish production in fisheries institutions.

SVVU Executive Council (EC), which met here on Wednesday, took a decision to this effect and it would cover College of Fishery Science at Muthukur, Nellore district apart from fisheries research institutions across the State. As many as 29 subjects were discussed in the meet chaired by Vice Chancellor Dr Manmohan Singh.

Speaking to media after the meet, Manmohan Singh said that the Board resolved to set up a five-member departmental promotion committee (DPC), which would be dealing with employees’ promotions. It is pertinent to note that the DPC was set up ten years after the SVVU came into existence in 2006 to look into the promotion of its employees.

The EC also decided to write to the government for sanctioning five posts including dean for post graduate studies and also the posts of professor and assistant professor two each for the College of Dairy Technology, Tirupati.

EC also gave its approval for the research program with a tie up with JK Trust on embryo technology.

The other decisions include beatification of the SVVU campus, replacing the existing electric bulbs with LED to save power and minimise electricity costs, sanction to VDA for employees and security staff working on contract basis, permission to PhD students for external research, he said.

A resolution to name the hostel blocks after the eminent retired professors worked in the college was also taken up in the meeting.

Later, Registrar DR Sudhakar Reddy who is retiring from service on December 31 is felicitated by the EC and university officials and others.

SVVU EC members Sravanakumar MLA, Suryanarayana, Dr Karunanidhi, deans Chandrasekhar Rao (veterinary science) Padmanabha Reddy (dairy science) and Dr Srinivasulu (director, extension) and others were present.
