​Guntur: The Guntur General Hospital is all set to perform free heart surgeries to the children under the NTR Vaidya Seva Scheme.

The government has taken this move after as the poor people were not able to afford for their kids operation who were suffering fromVentricular Septal Defect (VSD) in simple way it is like a hole in the heart that is commonly found in kids and new borns. This is first government hospital in the State to perform free surgeries to the children from January 1 on PPP mode.

So far the doctors in the GGH have screened 30 patients to perform the surgeries under this scheme. If the same surgery is performed in corporate hospitals, the patient would have to pay more than Rs 2-lakh fee. It is said that the Cardiothoracic surgeon Alla Gopala Krishna Gokhale team will perform the surgeries.

So far, he had performed over 260 heart surgeries in the GGH and two heart transplant surgeries first time in the State.

After successfully performing the heart transplants and heart surgeries, his team is ready to perform surgeries to the kids who suffer from VSD. Due to non -availability of this facility in the GGH, the poor patients are facing many problems.

GGH regional medical officer Dr Ramesh said, "All the arrangements have been made to perform free VSD surgeries to the children.

We have screened 30 patients for heart surgeries and patients can register their names for surgery. Dr A Gopala Krishna Gokhale team will perform the surgeries. Doctors are likely to perform the first surgery on January 2.

Minister for Medical and Health Kamineni Srinivas, AP Assembly Speaker Dr Kodela Siva Praada Rao will inaugurate the scheme on December 31 at a programme to be held in the GGH. "

Meanwhile, Dr Gokhale reviewed the arrangements for performing surgeries in the hospital. It is to be mention that the doctors in GGH had performed knee replacement surgery to the minister for Medical Health Kamineni Srinivas and similarly to ther patients.

The government had permitted the GGH to perform super specialty medical services as a part of rendering super specialty medical services to the poor.
