Congress to launch nation-wide protests next month

​Visakhapatnam: All India Congress Committee (AICC) official spokesperson and in-charge of Congress affairs in Delhi PC Chacko said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to demonetise high-value currency was a wrong move.

He lamented that the situation has not changed for middle and low income groups even after 50 days. Addressing a press conference here on Friday, the Congress leader said the people were still facing problems in getting required currency though the Prime Minister announced that things would become normal after 50 days.

“Modi should apologise to the nation for giving nightmarish times to the people,” he demanded and said that Congress would launch agitations and protests all over the country next month.

“The Mahila Congress members will stage dharnas in front of collectorate on January 6 and all Congress workers across the nation will organise a protest on January 11,” he informed.

Chacko said that 110 people died all over the country while standing in queues in front of ATMs during the last 15 days.

“The Prime Minister announced that the main aim of the demonetisation was to unearth black money, prevent circulation of fake currency and containing the terrorist activities. But none of these could be fulfilled.

The new notes of Rs 2,000 are found in the hands of terrorists and Modi should know that terrorists also use foreign currency for their activities in India,” he sought to advice.

Nothing much of black money could be found and only hard earned money of the working class went to the bank, Chacko said. He added that the government has no authority to impose restriction on withdrawals of money belonging to the working class.

He also demanded removal off restrictions on bank transactions. Local leaders Dronamraju Srinivas, Behara Bhaskara Rao and Pedada Ramani Kumari were also present.
