Excitement is building up for the JIO Amaravati Marathon that will be held over four distances in the city on January 8. Being organised by Disease Eradication through Education and Prevention (DEEP) Trust, the grand event will be flagged-off by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

According to Race Director Dr Murali Nannapaneni, the response has been ‘overwhelming’ and encouraging. He said that already 4,000 runners have confirmed their entry and the figure could rise as the D-Day nears.

The marathon will comprise 21K, 10K, 5K and 3K in the run categories. Meanwhile, the Organising Committee is inviting student volunteers to be part of the race with their critical roles that will ensure the smooth conduct of the vent on the race day.

Defining their role, Kiranmai Kondaveeti, gave the perfect while contending “volunteers of the Marathon are not part of the event but they are the event”.

She said that it was indicative of their commitment that volunteers have come over from Visakhapatnam and Tirupati. They bring along experience having been integral to the hugely successful Vizag Bay Night Marathon and 7-Hills Tirupati Marathon.

Dr Murali said that be expected a sizeable presence of local volunteers. Their roles includeguiding the runners, supplying water, food, medals, cheering the runners to the finish line and make the stretch litter-free.
