Paderu (Visakhapatnam): Project Officer of Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) Ravi Pattanshetti asked the coffee crop officials to form Coffee Rythu Sanghams in tribal hamlets for 2017-18 fiscal to take up shade-giving nurseries.

At a meeting with Coffee Sub-Assistants, Field Consultants and Surveyors held here on Saturday, the Project Officer informed that it will be the responsibility of horticulture assistants to extend the coffee crop.

“We supply the seeds for growing shade-giving nurseries to the Coffee Rythu Sanghams which grow the nurseries in two categories-primary and secondary nurseries”, he explained.

He directed the officials to initiate steps for doubling the coffee production as well as the farmers’ income adding that 600 baby pulper units were distributed this year and it was proposed to distribute 1,400 next year.

Stating that any type of irregularities, lethargy or dereliction of duty would not be tolerated at any level, Pattanshetti wanted everything, including payments to coffee farmers should be transparent.
