Visakhapatnam: General secretary of State CPI (M) unit P Madhu has demanded a statement from Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on the seizure of property belonging to HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao, who stood guarantee to a company which had defaulted in paying back loans taken from the public sector entity ‘Indian Bank’.

Addressing the media on Saturday, Madhu accused the HRD Minister of overvaluing his properties which he had submitted as guarantor to the bank.

Ridiculing Ganta’s claim of having nothing to do with the company since he had resigned as its Director, Madhu said Ganta even now had 23 percent stake in the company. “The Minister hiked the value of his property and facilitated the loan to the company.

He cannot wash his hands off the issue now. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu constantly talks of honesty and transparency in administration.

I wonder how he is continuing Ganta Srinivasa Rao in the cabinet even after his glaring corruption has been exposed.

He should tell the people whether his party would take action against corrupt Ministers or protect them,” said Madhu. He demanded a statement from the Chief Minister on the whole episode.

Madhu also took strong objection to the government preventing Opposition leaders and farmers from attending the public hearing held for GMR Port in Tondangi in East Godavari recently.

The government got the Port approved by deploying Telugu Desam Party workers to the meeting, alleged Madhu and also demanded action against the collector of Srikakulam for initiating works at the Kovvada Nuclear power plant without any permission.

“If action was not taken against the collector, the CPM will bring a parliamentary team to assess the situation and initiate action,’’ he warned.

Stating that the CPI (M) was not averse to development, Madhu said his party would support land acquisition for industrial development in the State provided the Chief Minister decided in the presence of leaders of all political parties’ leaders, on the extent of land required, and expected investment and the employment it would generate.
