The all-surprising expulsion of Akhilesh from his own party – Mulayam's surgical strike against his son at a wrong time – seems to be a well-planned poll strategy of them.

As an incumbent party with no great record of people's friendly ruling, the Samajwadi Party is at a disadvantageous position to face the elections.

The BSP is busy with its traditional strategy of the social engineering.

The Congress party, with its non-existing focal agenda and non-inspiring leadership, will have to settle for playing second fiddle to this or that party; whereas the BJP has set the agenda for UP elections, bringing the issue of anti- corruption crusade to the centre stage, much to the discomfiture to the rivals.

Whether it can win the hearts of youth and women on this plank, the ruling party has to upset the apple cart of BJP by taking its pie.

Only Akhilesh can be suited for that role if he is proved to be a victim of old guards in his party.

Then all failures can be attributed to others and he can safely sail the wave of clean politics. Now, the two fractions of the same party can fight the elections as friendly enemies.

A high risk desperate gamble!
