Tirupati: Babu Jagjivanram Park (BJR) developed by Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) was thrown open to the public on Sunday as a New Year surprise bonanza to the denizens of the pilgrim city. The park was developed on a sprawling area of 3 acres with a total outlay of about Rs 2.30 crore in Bairagipatteda locality in the city and has a wide range of facilities including a public garden thereby fulfilling a longstanding need of the people of the city.

The facilities include a children’s play area with equipment, lush greenery, a walking track, amphitheatre, a meeting hall sufficient for small gatherings with adequate seating arrangements etc. The Wi-Fi facility at the park is a major attraction to visitors. A solar power generation unit was also set up to cater to the power needs of the park. Municipal Corporation commissioner and TUDA vice-chairman V Vinay Chand along with a team of officials visited the park after it was opened to the public on Sunday.

The park was formally inaugurated by CM N Chandrababu Naidu on December 27 and was opened to the public as a New Year gift, said Vinay Chand and added that the Corporation had also rejuvenated the six parks in the city by adding more facilities like walking tracts, seating arrangements and landscape and enhancing greenery in various residential localities in the temple town. TUDA secretary Madhavi Latha, Tirupati town cooperative chairman P Murali Krishna Reddy and others were present.
