Tirupati: Elaborate security arrangements are being made for the smooth conduct of the five-day Indian Science Congress (ISC) which will be held here at S V University from January 3 to 7.
According to official sources, a big contingent of security force numbering about 6,000 of all cadre is being deployed for the three-tier security at all the meeting venues, the university campus, at Renigunta airport, railway station, main bus station in the city, at the locations where Nobel laureates, scientists and other guests and VIPS stay and on all the roads in the city leading to the SV University campus where the five day science meeting will be held.
OCTOPUS, Greyhounds and APSP armed personnel were deployed in addition to the civil police for the security.
Senior officials including two additional DGPs, IG, DIG and SPs three each were posted for monitoring and overseeing the security to ensure no spot in and around the venue goes unsupervised.
The required police force including 500 women and also 30 bomb disposal squads for the meet were drawn from the other districts in the State.
According to sources, the DGP will be camping here for three days to oversee the security arrangements for the conference which will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 3.
As many as 334 CC cameras were installed inside and outside the university campus and a Central Command and Control Centre was also set up in the campus for a round-theclock monitoring, supervision and surveillance to ensure foolproof security for the science jamboree.
Police also imposed restrictions on the movement of vehicles in the city during the meeting.
Accordingly, the vehicles will not be permitted on Tirupati- Chittoor highway from Town Club Centre to Thummalagunta Centre near the university and were diverted to Alipiri bypass road, 150 bypass road, Ag .market committee road and AIR road partly.
