Visakhapatnam: Chairman and Managing Director of MMTC Vedprakash visited the Visakhapatnam Port on Monday. He was received by Port Chairman M T Krishna Babu, Deputy Chairman Haranadh and other senior officials.The Port Chairman gave a power point presentation at a meeting held with the officials of MMTC and ESSAR company representatives on Monday and informed them about facilities and infrastructure of the Port.

He explained to them, the iron-ore handling activities which had been taken over by ESSAR in May 2015 and said the entire activities would be refurbished by March 2017, to the satisfaction of all stakeholders. ESSAR Representative Rajiv informed about the upgradation of Outer Harbour Berths with latest state-of-art handling facilities designed for loading rated capacity of 8000 TPH by replacing major equipment such as Rotary Tippler, Twin Tippler, Stackers, Reclaimers and Ship-loader etc in order to achieve the overall EPC percentage by September 2017 by overcoming constraints like ship loader long travel, apron feeders, belts through-cuts, over load on motor, structural vibrations which were leading to bearing failures and slew problems.

Stating that it was a prestigious issue, he said that unless the concerns of the Japanese were addressed, signing an agreement with them regarding the same would be a problem.The CMD advised the ESSAR company people to take every possible effort by closely monitoring in the next two to three months and ensure better performance. Responding to the advice of the CMD, Port Chairman Krishna Babu assured that every effort would be made to improve the iron ore handling.
