if the government would not concede to their demands, said G M Dayakar, president Krishna district Joint Action Committee (JAC) of degree, junior and polytechnic contract lecturers.

He said that the annual examinations are fast approaching and practicals will start from February and theory from March and students and parents are worried about the examinations.

In all, 180 junior lecturers are taking part in the strike against the 400 junior lecturers who are working in 24 junior colleges in Krishna district. The remaining lecturers are permanent lecturers.

Though syllabus is not completed, the government is reluctant to concede their demands, he said.

SFI, PDSU and AISF demanded that the government accept the demands of contract lecturers unconditionally and regularise the contract lecturers’ posts in government colleges, implement basic and DA as per the 10th PRC, follow the recent Supreme Court order to implement (equal work, equal pay) for the lecturers working in the government degree, junior and polytechnic colleges.
