Vijayawada: CPI State secretary K Ramakrishna decried the move of State government to made amendments to Land Acquisition Act 2013 to avoid conduct of social impact assessment survey when acquiring land for industries in the State. In a press release here on Wednesday, Ramakrshna said the State government was forcibly trying to entrust thousands of acres to corporators in the name industrial development by making amendments to the Land Acquisition Act-2013 though it has no powers to do so.

Ramakrishna said that the UPA government brought the Land acquisition Act-2013 after massive protests by farmers in all the States. However, he said, the NDA government had made abortive attempt to make amendments to the existing Act. It also withdrew its plans with stiff opposition from Opposition parties in Parliament. The CPI leader demanded the State government withdraw its attempt take lands forcibly by making amendments to the existing law. He also demanded an all-party meeting to discuss the issue.
