Visakhapatnam: The city police arrested a 21-year-old man, who was involved in as many as five chain snatching cases at Anandapuram and Tagarapuvalasa areas, for the past several months. He was identified as Karrothu Hemanth , a resident of Podugupalem village of Anandapuram mandal . The police recovered nine and half tolas of gold from him.

ADCP (crimes) S Varadaraju said that since several months, Hemanth has been sneaking into several houses and snatching gold ornaments from women. In first case at Anandapuram, Hemanth entered a house and asked for a glass of water. When the housewife brought water, he snatched her gold chain and fled the house. In rest of the cases at Tagarapuvalasa, Santhapeta, Kothapeta areas of Bheemili police station limits, he snatched gold chains from women while they were taking a nap in their houses in broad daylight.

After forming a special team, the police nabbed Hemanth Kumar. The accused is an ex-offender and had several cases of chain snatchings in Vizianagaram. Hemanth was also involved in a housebreak case under Three Town police limits in 2015. He was produced in the court and sent to remand.
