Danger lurks at Ramavarappadu junction
Ramavarappadu ring road junction, which connects the national highway, inner ring road and Ramavarappadu, Nidamanuru,
Vijayawada: Ramavarappadu ring road junction, which connects the national highway, inner ring road and Ramavarappadu, Nidamanuru, Enikepadu villages in Vijayawada rural mandal, turned into a danger zone as heavy vehicles pass through the junction very fast.
The junction connects Chennai-Hyderabad highway and Chennai-Kolkata highway. The commuters had been facing problems to take a U turn for entering the national highway from IRR. The CRDA constructed the Inner Ring Road connecting Gollapudi and Ramavappadu ring road junction to connect the national highway. Due to technical defects in the construction and linking the IRR to national highway a large number of commuters are suffering from problems for the past six months.
Local residents are asking the NH authorities to find a solution for smooth passing of vehicles from IRR to the national highway.
Heavy vehicle drivers travelling from Hyderabad to Chennai are passing via IRR and reaching Ramavarappadu junction to reach Chennai. A large number of drivers are facing an uphill task of taking a U turn at Ramavappadu junction due to heavy traffic on the national highway.
More than 50,000 vehicles pass via Ramavarappadu ring road junction every day. Similarly, vehicles passing from Chennai and Kolkata towards Hyderabad also pass via Ramavarappadu ring road junction and reach the Inner Ring Road. These vehicles pass via IRR and reach Gollapudi national highway to reach Hyderabad.
R Krishnam, a lorry driver, said that drivers have been facing lot of pressure to cross Ramavarappadu ring road junction from IRR to national highway to reach Benz Circle junction.
Traffic has increased drastically in the city since it was declared capital city two and half years ago. Sufficient police are not deployed to regulate the traffic at Ramavarappadu ring road junction to avert mishaps. Since Gannavaram airport is near to Ramavarappadu ring road junction, the movement of VIP vehicles is also very high.
The police are halting the traffic many times in a day for the smooth passing of VIP vehicles. This is also causing lot of inconvenience to the local residents and other commuters who pass via Ramavarappadu junction.
