Vijayawada: The Government Junior Urdu College located at Wynchpet in Vijayawada is in the state of neglect without regular lecturers and inadequate facilities. The college is functioning on the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation High School building premises as it did not have its own building.
The college was established in the academic year 2013-14. The objective of the government to encourage Muslim students to pursue education in Urdu medium is not getting fulfilled due to the apathy of the officials in releasing salaries to the guest lecturers and sanctioning site for the construction of own college building.
It is learnt that only one regular lecturer has been posted to the college. Principal Hafiz Shaik Ahmed has been working on deputation. Two guest lecturers are working without salary since 2013.
Till now, Rs.6.18 lakh salary dues of lecturers are pending with the government, which is granting salaries to the guest lecturers working in the old government colleges established long ago.
Since the Government Urdu Junior College was inaugurated only three years ago, the Board of Intermediate is not sanctioning the salaries to the guest lecturers, said the principal. He said many representations were given to the officials, Ministers for the release of salary, but in vain. The college has a strength of 90 students who are pursuing CEC and HEC groups.
Now, the government has sanctioned MPC and BiPC groups from the academic year 2017-18. Interestingly, only guest lecturers can be appointed as per the rules since appointment of contract lecturers in the government colleges was banned by the State government in 2013. It may be mentioned that the government also not recruiting regular lecturers since long time.
In this backdrop, the Junior College has to depend only on guest faculty. Unfortunately, guest faculty may not come forward to teach Maths and Science subjects due to the non- payment of salaries to the existing two guest lecturers since 2013. If guest lecturers won’t come to teach the subjects, what is the use of sanctioning Science groups to the college, asked one of the lecturers in the college.
