Eluru: Pedavegi Indian Institute of Oil Palm Research (IIOPR) director Dr RK Mathur, on Wednesday stressed on the need to take up research on eco-friendly crops in future. He was addressing the UGC sponsored national seminar on “innovative research in food and commercial crops for their sustainability and challenges” at St. Theresa autonomous college for women here. College principal Sr. Mercy presided over the inaugural programme. Addressing the seminar, Dr Mathur regretted that nowadays the water and land is polluted and the scientists are concentrating on the higher yielding only.

Professor MNV Prasad of department of Plant Science from University of Hyderabad, said that there are two varieties of crops where one deal with the food production and the other is power resource and added that the second variety crop will produce bio-diesel.
