Chittoor: Political leaders of opposition parties have boycotted ‘Janmabhoomi-Maa Vooru’ programme in the district with ruling TDP leaders are busy in participating in the ongoing Indian Science Congress (ISC) meet in Tirupati. Opposition leaders say there is no purpose for them to participate in the Janmabhoomi when Ministers and MLAs are attending ISC. They termed Janmabhoomi mere a public stunt.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Wednesday, CPI district secretary Rama Naidu said Janmabhoomi programme is a futile exercise of the
TDP government. He stated that 2.76 lakh applications for ration cards and 86,000 for pensions are pending in the district. He ridiculed the
ruling government for not resolving drinking water woes of people. “Several villages in the district are facing drinking water shortage,” he added.
The CPI leader said that 420 schools in the district lack toilets and no minimum facilities in social welfare hostels.

He flayed the ruling party leaders for showing false concern towards poor and giving an assurance of resolving their problems in Janmabhoomi
programme. He slammed the TDP government for constituting Janmabhoomi committees with local TDP leaders and defeating its purpose.
Rama Naidu said that opposition parties are not interested to waste their time by taking part in the Janmabhoomi programme.

YSRCP district convener J Srinivasulu has described Janmabhoomi as a publicity campaign of the ruling TDP government. He stated that it is
only venue to submit applications to elected representatives and officials and not to resolve their grievances. He charged that ruling party
leaders are not interested to involve opposition parties in Janmabhoomi programme. Same opinions were expressed by Congress and CPM
parties.
