Chittoor: Smuggling of red sanders logs is going unabated despite serious efforts of police. District Superintendent of Police (SP) G Srinivas said that police have arrested three inter-State red sanders smugglers on Tuesday while conducting vehicle checks at Yadamarri by-pass road. The police seized 48 red sanders logs and a four-wheeler from them. Speaking to the media at Police Guest House here on Wednesday, the SP stated that arrested red sanders smugglers have exported 400 tonnes of red sanders logs in the last 12 years.

The police identified the accused as Syed Feroz (42), Afsar (43) and driver Aplooz (35). All the three are residents of Karnataka State. The SP further said that the accused used to maintain close contacts with red sanders smugglers of Mumbai and Delhi to export logs. “Several cases were registered against the accused in Kadapa and Chittoor districts,” he added. Srinivas said that the district police have conducted awareness camps in Kadiganahalli village (Karnataka State) which is famous for red sanders smugglers.

The SP presented appreciation certificates to Circle Inspector Adinarayana, who is working at Chittoor West police station and Yadamarri police station Sub-Inspector Mallikarjuna Rao for their outstanding efforts in nabbing the accused. Additional SP Abhishek Mohanty, Chittoor DSP Lakshmi Naidu and other officials were present.
