Vijayawada: Proposal for shifting the wholesale fruit market from the busy Kedareswarapet to Nunna mango market has been pending since two years.

Due to traffic congestion and garbage near the residential areas, which are adjacent to the fruit market, the district administration and wholesale fruit traders have earlier decided to shift the wholesale fruit market to Nunna mango market which is 10 km from the existing market.

Joint Collector Gandham Chandrudu also conducted a meeting with the fruit merchants on shifting the market o Nunna. But, some traders are reluctant to shift the market due to fear of losing their business.

Several hundred retail traders and people visit the wholesale fruit market every day at Kedareswarapet for buying fruits. If the market is shifted to Nunna, the retailers and people who visit the market may face difficulties.

The officials are holding discussions with the fruit traders on shifting the market. But, it will take some more time. Nunna market has more than 80 shops with basic infrastructure like roads, electricity and drinking water.

The Nunna market is busy for only three months during the mango season from April to June. Later, Nunna mango market wears a deserted look without trading activity.

Mango farmers from Krishna, Guntur, West Godavari, Khammam and Warangal districts bring the mangoes every season for sale. Nunna Mango Growers Association had purchased the land at Nunna and established the market in 1999.

Mangoes are exported to Hyderabad and many North Indian States during the summer from Nunna market.
Earlier, the mango market was at Kedareswarapet for many decades.

Due to traffic congestion and increasing vehicles, the mango traders decided to build their own market and successfully constructed in 1999. Now, the wholesale fruit traders are ready to shift to mango market in Nunna for doing the business.

“We are ready to shift the fruit market from Kedareswarapet market to Nunna, which is very convenient for us for exports and import of fruits, said Kasi Visweswara Rao, president of the Nunna Mango Growers Association.

Talking to The Hans India, he said the traders are ready to shift the market very soon. Nunna mango market is very near to Inner Ring Road (IRR), which connects the national highway in the city and more than 20 mandals, which are famous for mango production.

The Vijayawada (Gollapudi) Agriculture Market Committee is developing the market with its funds.
