Rajamahendravaram: Farmers should allow for the construction of the Purushottampatnam Lift Irrigation Scheme and justice will be done to all the farmers who have renounced their lands, East Godavari District Collector H Arun Kumar said here today.

He has conducted a meeting with the farmers from Purushottapatnam, China Kondepudi and Nagampalli villages of Sithanagaram mandal at sub-collector’s office in Rajamahendravaram on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, Arun Kumar said that further 250 villages need to be acquired for the purpose of building the scheme. He allayed apprehensions of farmers in the affected villages assuring that no injustice will be done to farmers.

He informed that soon a survey is going to be taken up with the objective of completing the project in nine months time and urged the farmers to cooperate for the smooth completion of the scheme.

Land will be pooled as per the Land Acquisition Act, 2013. The existing land value at Purushottapatnam is Rs 7 lakh per acre, whereas the farmers will be paid Rs 17.91 lakh per acre for the surveyed land and the farmers in Nagampalli will get Rs 15.35 lakh per acre as against the market rate of Rs 7 lakh per acre, he added.

Reacting to the farmers’ demand of Rs. 19 lakh compensation per acre, the District Collector said that he would be taking up their demands with the government and hopeful of getting the best price before the next meeting.

He said that the farmers should not stall the survey of their lands taken up by surveyors and Tahasildars. He appealed to the farmers not to create any hurdles to the survey and bring any issues connected with their lands to his notice or the Sub-Collector.

The Collector clarified that land to land will be given only for STs, whereas compensation will be paid to the ceiling lands. He directed Tahsildars to conduct the survey in villages only after informing them in advance about the same.

Rajamahendravaram city MLA Dr Akula Satyannarayana, Joint Collector J Satyannarayana, JC-2 P Radhakrishna Murthy and Sub-Collector Vijaykrishnan were also a part of the review meeting.
