Tirupati: The officials more so from the pilgrim city heaved a sigh of relief with the grand finale of the 104th Indian Science Congress (ISC) here on Saturday.

The authorities of various departments, who were on their toes, since December in the preparation for the mega science event, were relieved at the end of the meet.

Particularly, the Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) which took care of the sanitation and upkeep involving more than 3,000 personnel including officials in the rank of municipal commissioner, sanitary supervisors, inspectors, health workers drawn from various municipalities in the State done a commendable job by ensuring the entire SVU campus, all the roads leading to places of meeting, roads in the city and other places of public movement.

Especially, the large contingent of health workers placed here in the meeting halls, internal roads, exhibition, food court etc. saw no litter despite a large number of six lakh visiting the ISC apart from the delegates and the organisers.

No wonder, MCT Commissioner V Vinay Chand profusely thanked his staff and those brought from outside involved in the sanitation, cleaning, upkeep and disposal of waste promptly.

A health official said that 60 to 70 tonnes of solid waste generated were cleared by operating the trucks round-the-clock and also the health workers, who remained as unsung heroes.

Meanwhile, many delegates expressed their happiness as the meeting held in the holy place Tirupti providing them the rare opportunity of darshan of Lord Venkateswara.

Monish Dev, a post-graduate student from Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh, Santhosh Kumar of Bihar and others insisted on follow up of the resolutions arrived at the ISC meeting by implementing them.

The meeting involving huge expense and efforts will be fruitful if it achieves the application and execution for promotion of science, they said.

While some the delegates were happy at the proceedings and arrangements in the ISC meet. However, critical about lack of adequate facilities in their institutions back home and observed ‘the picture is not that much rosy’ in their institutions.
