Eluru: Andhra Pradesh Kollu Rythu Sangham (APKRS) demanded the State government to announce loan waiver for the tenant farmers and rythu mithra groups.

APKRS West Godavari District Committee General Secretary K Srinivas told media here at CITU office on Saturday that the loan waiver as announced by the Government in the last five phases did, in no way, bring benefit to the tenant farmers.

He demanded the Government to announce the 6th phase loan waiver immediately, as many tenant farmers have applied for the lone waiver to the farmers’ empowerment corporation.

He said that the tenant farmers are not in a position to repay the debts to the banks. To add woes, the added interest rates are pinching them. Coupled with this, the tenant farmers are facing severe currency crunch in the face of demonetization, he decried.

The scrapping of big notes made the life difficult for the tenant farmers as they did not get private loans in villages.

In the present scenario, the government should take steps to waive the loans availed by the farmers and sanction new loans to them to take up the Kharif cultivation.

He pointed out that already the RBI and the governments have issued necessary directions to sanction Rs.1 lakh to every tenant farmer towards the crop loan. APKRS leader Guttikonda Venkata Krishna Rao along with others too participated in the media conference.
